Hope United Methodist Church

Hope Counseling Center Offers Free Professional Counseling Services to Wildfire Survivors from all areas.

San Diego, CA (January 4, 2007) – Hope Counseling Center, an outreach of Hope United Methodist Church, originally opened its doors four years ago in the Rancho Bernardo community of San Diego. Due to funds recently provided by UMCOR, the Methodist relief organization, the Center is currently offering free individual counseling services to wildfire survivors without mental health coverage. The support groups are free to anyone affected by the fires. These services are provided by licensed psychotherapists and are available for individuals, teens, couples or families.

Hope Counseling Center is currently offering the following programs for Fire Survivors from all areas of town:

  • Short term Individual Trauma Treatment for Adults & Teens
  • Free Support Groups as need arises
  • Daytime, evening and weekend hours

Common symptoms that can be quickly and effectively treated are:

  • Nightmares
  • startle responses to smell, sounds or images of fire
  • crying, anger, lack of motivation or feeling overwhelmed
  • increased anxiety since the fires
  • increased family conflict since Wildfires

Talking to a professional counselor can be helpful as can a treatment known as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). It is a short term treatment that can reduce trauma symptoms effectively. For information on other types of counseling offered by Hope Counseling Center on a standard fee basis, go to: www.Hope-Counseling-Center.com

Hope Counseling Center is located in the RB Medical Dental Building, 16766 Bernardo Center Dr. Suite 208, San Diego, CA 92128.
