San Diego Furniture Bank - "Furnishing Hope"

San Diego Furniture BankThe mission of the San Diego Furniture Bank is to "furnish hope" for those in need of furniture, appliances and electronics.

SDFB receives new and gently used donated furniture, appliances and electronics and re-donates these items to individuals and families in need. In order for SDFB to be self-sustainable, a minimal "ministry donation" is assigned to each piece of furniture to reimburse the operational costs of receiving and handling all items.

All victims of natural disasters can receive an additional 20% off the posted ministry donation. If you cannot afford the ministry donation you may apply for an application for assistance and volunteer at a rate of 4 hours per $100.

KEMA Winter Bonus Program Expanded for Rancho Bernardo

As residents in Rancho Bernardo clean up in the aftermath of the recent fires, KEMA offers an important program for residents to keep their air conditioning (AC) systems running smoothly while saving energy and money.

KEMA’s Winter Bonus Pilot Program, which targets single family residences in Rancho Bernardo, offers free advanced tune-ups of AC units including cleaning of AC condensers to remove ash and other contaminants created by the recent fires and a premium air filter. All this is to ensure an AC system is running at its greatest efficiency – a value of $150 at no charge.

“Up to 30 percent of an energy bill can be due to an air conditioning system,” said Bart Weiland, Technical consultant for KEMA Services. “We are launching the Winter Bonus Pilot Program in Rancho Bernardo to help residents save money on their energy bills by ensuring their AC system is running smoothly.”

The Winter Bonus Pilot Program provides a specially trained and uniquely qualified contractor to determine the exact condition of an AC system with the use of the latest diagnostic methods and techniques. Like a high-performance car, an air conditioning system needs computerized diagnostics to keep it running smoothly and efficiently. A complete set of advanced tests provides residents with improved efficiency and system performance – in turn, saving energy and money. By checking refrigerant level and airflow through the system, combined with replacing with a premium filter and cleaning the condenser, your overall AC system condition will be greatly improved!

Customers benefit through:
• New Premium Air Filter
• Reduced electric bills
• Longer AC unit life
• Reduced emergency repair expenses
• Helping the environment!

The Winter Bonus Pilot Program runs from Feb. 1 to April 30, 2008. Funds are limited. To enroll in the program, please call 1-800-289-2440.

The Winter Bonus Pilot Program is funded by California utility customers and administered by San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E®) under the auspice of the California Public Utilities Commission, through a contract awarded to KEMA Services Inc. California customers who choose to participate in this program are not obligated to purchase any additional services offered by the contractor. Recovery Assistance from Intuit

For the past few weeks, America has watched as wildfires ravaged Southern California from Malibu to the Mexican border. We've felt especially close to this tragedy, as hundreds of our employees were evacuated from their homes and several of our offices were closed due to fire and smoke. To everyone affected by these fires, Intuit employees offer our thoughts and support as you begin to rebuild your lives, homes and businesses. Pictures and news accounts vividly capture the images of this disaster, but from afar, we know we cannot begin to comprehend the enormity of the challenges you face. We want to do our part to help you address some of your needs. Therefore, we've established a Southern California Wildfire Recovery Assistance program, providing software, services and financial assistance to those in the devastated areas. Others have volunteered to help disaster assistance organizations. We're also providing software, services and additional financial support to help individuals and businesses recover and get re-established. Below is a partial list of the assistance we would like to offer. For complete details, please visit:

"OUT OF THE ASHES" ORGANIZATIONAL TOOL CREATED AND DISTRIBUTED BY CEDAR FIRE VICTIMS

Out of the ashes boxTo assist families who lost their homes in the Witch Creek fire, a group of nearly 100 Scripps Ranch volunteers designed, assembled and are distributing 1000 file system totes, customized to the needs of recovering fire victims. Each portable, plastic tote contains pre-labeled hanging files and manila folders to help organize the many important forms, receipts, and documents acquired during the recovery process.

Many of this project's volunteers lost their Scripps Ranch homes in the 2003 Cedar Fire and are now eager to "pay it forward" by sharing their post-fire experience and knowledge with those who are beginning the recovery process in Rancho Bernardo, Poway, Ramona and other surrounding areas. They reveal, "Getting organized helps you feel in control of your life again."

The totes are currently available (free of charge) at the Rancho Bernardo Assistance Center (18448 West Bernardo Dr., San Diego, CA, 92127). Plans are currently underway to distribute totes at additional Relief Centers.

Please feel free to share this information with friends and neighbors affected by the 2007 fires. From our families to yours, we wish you resilience in this challenging time.
